Mill Creek Police Chief Greg Elwin has been named co-chair of the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) Small Agency Committee. His work will help ensure that smaller cities, such as Mill Creek, have their needs represented equally to that of large cities.

“We appreciate Chief Elwin’s dedication to public service within Mill Creek and beyond,” said City Manager Rebecca Polizzotto. “One of our goals in Mill Creek is to influence regional, state and national matters that impact our community through staff engagement. His leadership on this committee is one example of how we are achieving that goal.”

WASPC was founded in 1963 with the mission to lead collaboration among law enforcement executives to enhance public safety. Its membership consists of executive and top management personnel from law enforcement agencies statewide. Its membership includes sheriffs, police chiefs, the Washington State Patrol, the Washington Department of Corrections, and representatives of a number of federal agencies.

“I’m delighted to have been chosen to co-chair this committee” said Elwin. “Smaller police agencies represent the majority of departments statewide and it is important that we have the opportunity to have a voice in the training, legislation and organizational development that impacts our cities and counties. Participation in a statewide group like this one will help the MCPD provide better service to its community.”

WASPC is the only association of its kind in the nation combining representatives from local, state, tribal and federal law enforcement into a single body, working toward a common goal. WASPC's function is to provide specific materials and services to all law enforcement agencies in the state, members and non-members alike.
