Veterans Day Citizen Advisory Meeting is this Tuesday Night

Local residents, business owners, and interested individuals can get involved by participating in the City’s first Veterans Day Citizen Advisory Meeting next Tuesday, August, 15 at 5 p.m. in the City Hall South Council Chambers, located at 15728 Main Street in Mill Creek. There will be light snacks and refreshments.

This will be the third year of holding the commemorative ceremony and parade on Veterans Day. This group will advise City staff on how to improve the events this year. This group would meet once a month or more depending on topics and guide staff during the event planning.

The City’s mission is, “To set the standard of excellence for local government. Through dynamic and innovative strategies, we provide outstanding public services in a fiscally responsible manner to promote a safe, active and vibrant city.”

Participants interested can help create Veterans Day events that:

•Recognize veterans

•Give back to veterans through support, promotion or financial contributions

•Bring awareness and honor to those who are currently enlisted in active/reserve U.S. Armed Forces

•Achieve a strong community patriotic spirit

New ideas for this year include:

•Creating a local advisory group

•Adding a catered breakfast for veterans before the parade

•Working with the local VFW to handout poppies

•Increasing support for Operation Gratitude

•Involve local schools in pre-event activities

•Other citizen-generated ideas

To attend the advisory meeting, please RSVP to Mill Creek Recreation and Tourism manager Brian Davern at 425-921-5736 or . The City looks forward to working with citizens to make this year’s events even better.
