  Small Works Roster

The Small Works Roster is a joint effort between member

agencies (Mill Creek, Lynnwood, Edmonds, etc.), to better

manage the contractors who do routine or small public works

projects (under $ 200,000.) for these agencies.  This information

is updated on a periodic basis and is managed by the Municipal

     Research and Services Center.  www.mrscrosters.org

The Public Works Department is divided into five divisions: Engineering/Administration, City Streets, Facilities Maintenance, Parks Maintenance, and Surface Water Utility.

 Engineering/Administration Division

The Engineering/Administration Division provides engineering services for the entire city and administers the Public Works Department.  The four major functions under this division include Land Development Review and Inspection, Engineering Design, Project Management, and Engineering & Special Studies.  Within each of the functions there are several activities associated with the City’s current storm water program as highlighted in the Table below and discussed below.

Land Development Review and Inspection includes plan checking of new developments for compliance with City standards.  Preliminary and final storm drainage and traffic studies for new developments are reviewed for compliance with design criteria and standards.  Also included is inspection of new developments to verify that storm water facilities, streets and sidewalks are being constructed in accordance with City standards and requirements.  In addition, the City requires the developer’s designer to provide maintenance strategies to meet the needs of the proposed storm water facilities.  These maintenance strategies include, for example, procedures on how a planned facility will be cleaned and the frequency of cleaning.

  • Engineering Design includes overview and coordination for Public Works design projects performed by City staff and consultants.

  • Project Management provides overview and coordination of the City’s Public Works Capital program, including construction of public improvements, inspection of developer construction activities, and overseeing the preparation of operations and maintenance programs.

  • Engineering and Special Studies includes involvement with other jurisdictions and agencies dealing with regional traffic and storm water issues.  Also included under the function is the monitoring of new and pending state and federal regulations.
