What is the tax rate for the City of Mill Creek?
  • The City tax rate for 2011 is $2.37 per thousand dollars of assessed value. This amount goes to the City. Your overall tax bill also includes taxes for Snohomish County, state schools, local schools, and Sno-Isle Regional Library.
How are my taxes determined?
  • The City Council sets the property tax annually. For 2011, the City Council increased the property tax levy by 1% or $7 for a typical residence.
Where does the tax revenue go?
  • Property tax revenue currently comprises 61% of the City's annual operating revenue. It is used to provide city services including police, fire, emergency medical services, community development, public works, streets, and general government.
Are the City's books audited?
  • Yes. Every year the Washington State Auditor's Office performs an on-site audit of the City's financial records and procedures. The audit for fiscal year 2009 is complete and can be viewed at the following:  http://www.sao.wa.gov (choose Reports, then Audit Report Search and select Local Government, City/Town, and Mill Creek).
How can I get involved in the budget process?
  • Public hearings are held in November when the City Council prepares to set the tax rate for the upcoming year. Budget review sessions are open to the public during that time. The City also sends out citizen surveys to collect information regarding levels of service, fees, etc.
