Heron Park Play Area Upgrades Project


Description: Heron Park is one of 10 municipal parks in the City of Mill Creek. Built in 1991, it is fairly secluded park is located between Village Green Drive and 155th Street SE. It features grass play areas, nature trails, a picnic shelter and tables, a playground and tennis court. 

Project Details: Beginning June 1, 2020, Heron Park will undergo upgrades to its picnic shelter roof and floor, playground equipment and the park's parking lot. Heron Park has not experienced any major upgrades in nearly 30 years. The picnic shelter roof has reached the end of its life expectancy.

Contractor: The City of Mill Creek awarded a contract on Feb. 11, 2020 in the amount not to exceed $325,422.50 to Neptune Marine LLC, from Mount Vernon.

Project Timeline: Project duration is 45 working days (June 1 until mid-August 2020).

Total Project Budget: $410,000

  • $150,000 – Interlocal Agreement (ILA) with Snohomish County
  • $5,000 – SCPP grant, Snohomish County
  • $255,000 – Local Funds

Feb. 11, 2020 - Mill Creek City Council Agenda Summary Award Construction Contract

Update: June 11, 2020 - Crews have removed the existing playground equipment and concrete/asphalt has been removed. Crews also are in process of removing the existing shelter roof. 

August 25, 2020 - 
The City anticipates the park will be open by the end of next week. The contractor had some delays from the play equipment manufacturer. The inspection of the equipment and a final walk-through with the contractor still needs to be completed before opening the park to the public.
