Overview
The City recently launched an initiative to look at economic development and land-use opportunities for the area surrounding Mill Creek Blvd., south of the Town Center.

City Planning Manager Tom Rogers is leading the charge on a study that currently is underway by Otak Consulting.

The purpose of the study is to establish a long-term vision for land use and transportation that can be implemented over the next five to 20 years if property owners decide to redevelop their properties. The study also will identify short-term needs for this corridor, including lighting, surface water infrastructure repairs, and pavement preservation needs. Another important component of the plan will be to identify North Creek Trail improvements needed in this particular area of the City.

Driving the City’s renewed interest in this area is the arrival of the Community Transit Swift Green Line last March and the potential of a Swift Orange Line arriving in 2024. These bus rapid transit lines will bring more people into the City – particularly to the Mill Creek Blvd. corridor.

Rogers’ extensive tenure with the City in planning and community development is helpful to the work. He will draw on lessons learned especially from the development of Mill Creek Town Center.

Significant public input will be solicited during the study, including from: property and business owners; partners such as Community Transit, Snohomish County, the Mill Creek Chamber, and Town Center Business Association; residents in the area; and the City’s Planning Commission. Additional information will be forthcoming about participation opportunities.
