City Seeks Volunteers to fill Board and Commission Vacancies

The City of Mill Creek is seeking volunteers to fill positions on the Civil Service Commission, Design Review Board, Arts and Beautification Board, and the Park and Recreation Board.

CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION
The Civil Service Commission has one vacancy that will expire April 30, 2022. The commission is responsible to provide for, formulate and hold competitive tests to determine the relative qualifications of persons who seek employment for civil service positions and certify eligibility lists; to hear and determine appeals or complaints regarding Civil Service examinations; and to maintain and approve Civil Service regulations in compliance with State law.

Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 3 p.m. at Mill Creek City Hall South, 15728 Main St. Attendance at additional special meetings may be required. To be eligible for this commission, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, resident of the City of Mill Creek for at least one year immediately preceding appointment to the commission and registered to vote in Snohomish County.

DESIGN REVIEW BOARD
Design Review Board has two vacancies that will expire August 31, 2021. The Design Review Board reviews and makes urban design decisions that will promote visual quality throughout the City. This includes reviewing all site plans, building elevations, landscaping and monument signs for attached single-family residential, multifamily residential, industrial, and commercial developments.

Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at 5:15 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall South, 15728 Main St.

The Board Members shall be from the professions of architecture, landscape architecture, urban (design) planner or similar disciplines. They need not be residents of the City.

Letters of interest are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.

ART AND BEAUTIFICATION BOARD
Volunteers with a background or interest in landscaping or art are needed to fill two vacancies on the Art and Beautification Board. The terms of both positions lasts three years, expiring on Oct. 31, 2020. Meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall South, 15728 Main St.

The Art and Beautification Board is an advisory board that focuses on matters of designing landscaping, acquiring artwork and proposing projects for all City owned property. Board members utilize the Municipal Art Fund to enhance the aesthetics and beauty within common and business areas of the City.

Board members should have an interest or professional experience in landscaping or art, and must be residents or own/operate a business in the City. Letters of interest are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.

PARK AND RECREATION BOARD
The Park and Recreation has one vacancy that will expire October 31, 2021. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m. at Mill Creek City Hall South, located at 15728 Main St.

The Park and Recreation board serves as an advisory board regarding acquisition, development, design, operation, and use of park and recreation facilities. The board is also responsible for identifying capital improvement plans, creating contracts, and interlocal and lease agreements regarding park and recreation activities.

Board members should have an interest or professional experience in community parks and trails, and must be residents of the City. Letters of interest are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 31.
