If you have ever wondered what makes up a police department, then here is your chance to find out up close and personal.

Beginning March 21, the Mill Creek Police Department will host its second annual Police Citizens Academy, a 10-week program designed to educate and connect with Mill Creek residents and members of surrounding communities. Each week will focus on a different topic, such as SWAT, K9, patrol procedures and criminal investigations, and officers will share insights into their work.

Classes will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the City Hall North, Large Community Room, 15720 Main St.

“The experience was fantastic,” said Barbara Heidel, who was in the Police Citizens Academy’s first cohort. “I enjoyed learning about all aspects of police work, and the officers were helpful and encouraging. I’m looking forward to the next one.”

There is no cost for the program and participants do not need to be Mill Creek residents. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and be able to pass a basic background check. Class size is limited, so early registration is encouraged. Visit www.cityofmillcreek.com/PoliceCitizensAcademy for more information and to apply.
