Girl Scout Troop 46475Mayor Pro Tem Stephanie Vignal and Deputy City Manager Laurel Brock will be on hand for the unveiling of Snohomish County's first dedicated 24-hour free pet food and supplies pantry. The public is welcome to attend the ceremony and ribbon-cutting at Paddywack (15407 Main Street) in Mill Creek Town Center on December 18 at 10:45 a.m.

Shane Somerville and Adam Felker, co-owners of Paddywack, recognized a strong need for community support for pet owners facing economic hardship. "No one should have to choose between feeding themselves or their pets, or between buying pet food and keeping their lights on or paying rent," said Somerville.

Somerville and Felker partnered with local Girl Scout Troop #46475 to build the pantry as a community service project. Troop leaders Amber Butler and Thatyane Nobre-Pavinatto's Junior and Cadette scouts were excited to make Somerville and Felker's vision a reality. "Our troop has focused on community service from the beginning. In building this pet food pantry with an upcycled cabinet, the scouts learned how to paint, construct, and hammer, and also larger values of teamwork, self-confidence, communication, and leadership," says Butler.

While Paddywack will be filling and replenishing the pantry with dog and cat food and supplies, they welcome donations of unopened pet food, supplements, and new or gently-used supplies from community members.
